Check JavaScript Errors in the Browser Console

By George Nicolaou

The browser Console is a useful starting point when a menu, form or interactive module stops working. It gives evidence about the failure rather than requiring you to guess.

Reproduce the problem

Open Developer Tools, select Console and reload the affected page. Perform the action that fails. Note the first relevant error, its script location and whether the problem appears only when logged in or on a particular device.

Separate errors from noise

A warning is not automatically the reason your form failed. Check the Network panel for missing scripts or failed requests and follow the error to the responsible file. Avoid pasting code from an unknown source into the Console.

Test one change at a time

On staging, temporarily adjust the suspected optimisation setting or isolate a plugin conflict. Clear the relevant cache and repeat the same action. Keep the change only if it fixes the failure without breaking another important journey.

When asking for help, share the error text, software versions and reproduction steps. Remove private tokens and personal data from screenshots or logs.
