Set a Static WordPress Homepage and Choose Permalinks
By George Nicolaou
A static homepage gives you a dedicated landing page while blog posts remain in their own archive. Choosing the structure early makes navigation and future editing simpler.
Assign the pages
Create the intended homepage and, if needed, a separate page for the blog archive. In WordPress’s Reading settings, choose the static homepage and the posts page. The posts page is an archive destination, so its ordinary page body may not control the articles displayed there.
Choose stable addresses
Review Permalinks before launch. Short, understandable addresses are easier to share, but changing an established structure can break existing links. Plan redirects for old public URLs instead of assuming WordPress will resolve every change automatically.
Check after publishing
Visit the homepage, a post, a category and the blog archive while logged out. Verify the main menu and any anchor links from inner pages. If a page returns an error, investigate rewrite configuration and caching rather than repeatedly changing the URL.
